Since 2023, Jose Javier has been a member of the AGR-159 research group, focusing on the analysis of microplastics (MPs) and emerging contaminants (ECs) in environmental matrices. His work combines Fourier Transform Infrared Microspectroscopy (µFTIR) for the identification of MPs with Liquid Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) for the detection of ECs. He routinely applies stereomicroscopy and various sample preparation techniques, including solid-phase extraction (SPE), QuEChERS, and accelerated solvent extraction (ASE). In 2025, he was awarded a predoctoral fellowship by the Andalusian Regional Government to support his PhD research, which focuses on the occurrence, distribution, and fate of MPs and ECs in environmental samples.
