About

María Murcia-Morales is a postdoctoral researcher in Analytical Chemistry at the Estación Experimental de Zonas Áridas (EEZA-CSIC). She has extensive experience on the environmental monitoring of organic contaminants, including pesticides, PAHs, PFAS and emerging pollutants in a wide range of samples, employing chromatographic techniques coupled to mass spectrometry. For seven years, she was a member of the European Union Reference Laboratory for Fruits and Vegetables (EURL-FV), where she developed and optimized methods for pesticide analysis in plant-based matrices. She completed a 15-month research stay at LABERCA-ONIRIS (France), where she further developed her expertise in advanced contaminant analysis, including the application of ion mobility for PFAS determination, as well as the monitoring of organic contaminants in Arctic biological and environmental samples. Her current line of work focuses on the role of microplastics as carriers of organic pollutants in the atmosphere.
